Leadership. Will you go big or go home? Which one will CEOs choose?

CEOs have an enormous responsibility. Bigger than, I believe, at any time that has come before. The approaches that have worked before are simply not enough in the current world context. Hence, Big Leadership.

Big Leadership has been something I have been developing for about 18 months. I wanted something profound yet simple, to convey this message of leadership. Something easy to use and remember.

I looked up the meanings of the word big to make sure BIG represented what I wanted. This is what I found:

The meanings of BIG:
➤ large, as in size, height, width, or amount: Big Leadership
➤ of major concern, importance, gravity, or the like: Big Leadership
➤ outstanding for a specified quality: Big Leadership
➤ important, as in influence, standing, or wealth: Big Leadership

Big leadership is about big organisations, with big opportunities, wanting big outcomes.

It is about you developing big leadership yourself, and in the leaders around you. Developing Big Vision, making Bold Decisions and taking Brave Action to create the future that matters to you and your community.

Big Leadership is a call to arms.

In teams, in organisations, across industries, in communities, and around the globe, we cannot afford to have people in leadership roles who are not going big with their leadership. No more simply holding a place on the organisation chart, no more procrastinating, no more resting on your laurels, no more relying on past performance, no more excuses, no more I’m too busy.

No more accepting the privileges of leadership and making no real leadership contribution.

As a world, we are faced with a new complex of challenges and opportunities, and we need leaders to lead us through them. The rate of change has accelerated and the need for leaders to step up to lead that change has accelerated as well. The expectations we have of leaders have changed significantly in the past few years, as they should have. We need leaders to lead.

Accept the responsibilities and step into your big leadership, or do not take on a leadership role.
