If you want your people to lead, then you need to allow them to lead.
In the last 24 hours I’ve had a number of clients with the same concerns.
They’re being asked to own their portfolio. They’re being given accountability and then having all their power, authority, decision making and control taken away from them.
Which doesn’t allow them to lead and it doesn’t allow them to deliver.
Micromanagement is not leading.
Taking away your front line or middle leaders ability to make decisions independently from you, is not leading.
You’re not developing them.
You’re not allowing them to fulfill their roles, their potential to learn, to grow. As a leader, well you’re just not leading. That’s not acceptable.
If you want your leaders to lead, then you need to support them, develop them. It’s an overused word, but empower them. Let them get on with their job so that you can get on with yours.
Your job is not doing their job for them.
Love to know your thoughts.
